Disability Study

Hellow ppl!


I had an 'Introduction to Disability' class today, and I had to decide the research topic for my presentation during that class.

I thought a story about 'disable-bodied' man was interesting. I think most of you know about Mr.Ototake who was born without arms and legs, but my class mates wouldnt know bout him. I thought his story would be interesting to other class mates.

But one of my class mates' topic was amputation, so I didnt choose this topic.

Next I thought of Animal Assisted Therapy, as I did lots of research when I was a freshman. This topic is also interesting.

However, I wanted to work on another one.

Something which lets me think deeply... and something new...

I remembered a man I saw on the train.


It was the end of July, when my friends and I were on our way home from the city. I saw a man. He was sitting on the seat on the train.

I thought he was a drug user bcuz he his hands were shaking..

When the train was about to leave one station, the man stood and rushed to the door with jerky walk.

But it was too late, and his bag was stuck between the doors...

People on the train pushed the emergency botton and talked to the driver to open the door, but the system to open and close the doors was automation and it didnt help.

The man was standing, holding the strap of his bag for some time...

Then one of my friends told me that the man should be a patient of Perkinson's disease.

I was so embarrased with my misunderstanding... I didnt know anything bout Perkinson's disease at all, and whats worse, I looked at him with a prejudice...

what a shame!!


So I decided to research about Perkinson's disease. Knowing more about disability will reduce the prejudice towards ppl with disabilities, I think.

Happi Bdae Keiko and Janice!

Well, their birthday is actually on 23rd, but I prepared a bday celebration on 21st.

Id been working on it for a few weeks...

I bought stuffs I needed for the party
I asked Jocelyn and Ina to send me Bday messages so that I can make other cards from them and pass them to 2 bday gals
I collected all the message cards Id passed to my friends, and made 2 cards from them

To be honest it was quite tough week for me as I don have Jocelyn and Ina here... If I had had more ppl to work with, it would have been better! .... anyway.. I did what I could do.

On the day of the celebration, we asked Janice to come to Keiko's bday celebration, and asked Keiko to play ping pong (we had the party @rec room where there is a table for ping pong). And they came to rec room and found that theres a bday celebration for them!!
Yea, it was sort of surprise party.

I was busy and occupied to doing stuffs, and still not sure if they enjoyed the party...

I really hope they had febulous time on that day, and will have great bday(s?) on 23rd!!

Oh no Im such a lazy bum!!!

Hey guys, how are you doing??

I spent these weekend just being lazy!!!! Woke up late, stayed up late, no study, took a plenty of nap..... How come I can be such a lazy bum??? I know there are lots to do!!! I have readings, assignments and some other things.... you know, Ive been procrastinating!!!!!

I saw a movie on TV today. It was about 2 doggies one belongs to the president and one does to a normal couple. One day, they were swapped accidentaly then... oh well, I stop telling you bout the movie, coz any of you may see the movie in the future.. Anyway it was sort of kids' movie and I could enjoy seeing it. Oops, it doesnt mean that Im a kid!! Im a woman!!

Well, Im going to go to the post tomorrow, and will do some grocery shopping too. Hope I start beong a good girl from tomorrow...

So let me be a lazy bum till the end of today!

IS ILLEGAL BAD AND LEGAL GOOD??

Hey guys. I had a Addiction Studies class. This class is about use and issues of psychoactive drugs.

I learnt that the different concepts about drug use. According to different factors like culrure, religion, era and country, drug use could/can be 'OK' or 'NG'. Many psychoactive drugs used to be legal or welcomed. Opium was used by Eng gov't to get tea from China by means of barter. It caused terrible addction, and even the Opium War, though!!! Other psychoactive drugs used to be in use in medical field, and still, some of them are in use now (in forms painkiller, etc). In some regions, psychoactive drug is used for ritual or religious ceremonies.

So? Some thinks using psychoactive drug is 'OK'.

I say its ok to use moderate amount of prescribed psychoactive drug. Anti-depressaint is a good example.

BUT, only to feel 'high' or escape from dull mood, psychoactive drugs are in use, too.

I never say its 'OK'.

However, according to my friend, its legal here to grow one root of plant from which we can make psychoactive drug. Im not sure what kind of plant is 'OK' to grow, but it may be hemp, I guess.

In today's class, the lecturer asked us if we would permit our 14 year old sons or daughters to use marijuana if they want to do so.

I was like... "Awwwww whata heck is she asking?? Our answer will be absolutely NO!!!"

But some said 'I say no, coz its too young'

WHAT??? Is that the point of this discussion??? :(

And even some said 'I don mind. Its ok'

HA! Im happy coz Im not their daughter!!!! :S


Even if its legal, psychoactive drug is far from 'safe'.

If our children use it...... hmm...

its too risky!

-they are more likely to get involved in drug use related crime!

-its addictive!

-we dont need it for our pleasure!!!!



Is legal not always 'OK' for us, and we need to be more responsible for what we are doing....

I know the concepts of druguse are vary from one another, and no two minds think alike, though.....

Weekend!!!

I finished all my classes I had in this week!!!! I had 4 classes.

Well, I had 'Introduction to Disability' today. It was tiny class!!! Only 7 students were in the class room..... I found that the class was nice and assignments were not tough ones.

At first I enrolled 4units coz I planned to withdraw the most tough one... so I was supposed to continue 3units. But all of my units seemed interesting and I think I may continue all 4 units this semester.....

In this semester, I got to know some classmates who are moms! They are very nice and friendly!! I hope we can have a good relationship through the classes..
